Peter has always been interested in electronics and mechanical things. The more complicated the better. On leaving school he started working in the fledgling business with father, John. These days he splits his time between diagnosing some of the more technical electronics jobs and looking after fleet customers. When he is not at work he can often be found playing with vintage or classic motorcycles.
Upon leaving school, Mike joined brother, Pete, and father, John, in the family business. It soon became apparent that bigger premises were needed and that sparked the move to Leiston. Much of his work now involves supervising the workshops and liaising with customers and reception staff. His specialty is customer service and he is certainly smooth at that. Outside work he enjoys motorcycling, target shooting and spending time with the family and dog.
Founder of the company and Dad to Peter and Mike, John has been pretty much everywhere and done everything. Following an apprenticeship as a tool-maker he got bored with factory life and went on the road working as fleet engineer with a large haulage firm. A spell as service manager at a Ford main agent convinced him that life at an independent workshop was the way to go and he started this company. He is officially retired but we still call on his machining skills from time to time.
Verity doesn't see why anyone would go around a problem when you can barge your way through it. She came into the motortrade the hard way, doing an apprenticeship and NVQs with Suffolk College. From there she came to us and gained experience 'on the spanners' before qualifying as an MOT tester. After a spell working for a main dealer in Ipswich she took pity on us and returned as Service Manager. Her hands might stay cleaner these days but she certainly knows what goes on under the bonnet. Outside work interests are cycling, motorcycling and training/participating for a triathlons.
Ann is Mike and Peters mum and was the founder of the company with husband, John Appleton. Having had lots of experience with customers in reception, she now takes a back seat keeping the companies finances under control. Ann provides packed lunches for her 'boys', whilst they are hard at work. In her spare time, Ann can be seen reading on her tablet and providing cups of tea to her family whilst they play in their shed with motorbike projects.
Oz has been around the motortrade all of his life. After an apprenticeship in Aldeburgh he spent a time working for a fast fit outlet. He joined us as an MOT tester and, with the need for more testers he took on the job of overseeing the MOT scheme and ensuring consistency among the testers. He is also very involved with the heavy vehicle side of the business. From the picture, you will probably guess how he spends much of his time off. This, together with a young family leaves him a bit short of time to enjoy his motorcycle.
Ray is our longest serving team member. His background is an apprenticeship with a local garage before moving on to fleet engineering with a coach firm. These days he looks after many of the larger vehicles that come through our workshops. Archery astronomy and spoiling the grandkids keeps him out of mischief at the weekends.
Nick is another who came to us from school on work experience many years ago and is still here. He is meticulous at interiors and electrical jobs and is a big part of the MOT team. A Subaru Imprezza helps him spend his petrol money and he is happiest when he can spend time building weird contraptions in his shed. Converting a turbo charger into a jet engine is one project that comes to mind.
We are pleased to say that Mac has completed his NVQ level 3 qualification in motor vehicle repair and diagnostics at Otley college. Hopefully he should be able to provide complex fault finding backup to others in the team. He spends much of his time building banger cars and can now make it past the first lap without getting his car destroyed.
Alison joined us for a career change, after having worked at a Bank for a long time. She is extremely organised and is settling in very well with us. In her spare time, Alison is Cub Scout leader and likes to spend weekends away in a caravan.
Fresh from school, Jack has joined us full time after having spent some time working with us in his school holiday's. Seems like he couldn't stay away! He has an interest in banger racing in his spare time and has just got himself on the road with a 50cc moped!
Having had experience in many different fields of work - Rob can turn his hand to most things. What better person to join our team - as our caretaker. Rob has a keen eye to keep the place neat and tidy, whether it is a lick of paint or putting up fences, he is the man for the job. It seems his partner is not put off by the Rob's shed collection at home, as they are getting married next year.
Our newest recruit makes sure everyone is organised and under control. She is very cheap to employ and is happy with a few biscuits . . .
After having spent some time on day release, Tom has joined us full time. Tom already has some experience, as his family members are also mechanics. He likes to spend his spare time competing Rookie Rods and he works on his own race car. Tom also changes his cars more than we have hot dinners!
Paul is our friendly MOT tester, who works part time with us. He is a lover of dogs and drinking ale!
